I am a Consultant Hand, Wrist and Upper Limb Surgeon at Salford Royal. My elective practice is exclusively hand, wrist and elbow surgery. I also specialise in complex hand and wrist trauma and sports injuries. I have treated many elite sports players and musicians.
I have completed a Masters degree in Orthopaedic Engineering and published my research in numerous journals and presented it within the UK and internationally. One of my research projects evaluated the latest techniques of wrist ligament surgery. I was awarded dual postgraduate certification in hand surgery from both the British and the European Boards of Hand Surgery in 2013, becoming the first Consultant Surgeon to hold these awards. In 2016 I became the first surgeon to be awarded the MSc Master of Hand Surgery by the BSSH.
My roles include Clinical Director at the Department of Trauma, Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery at the Salford Royal Major Trauma Centre. I attended Manchester Grammar School before studying medicine at University College, London. I underwent higher specialist training in orthopaedics in the North West. After this, I undertook a 12 month Hand and Upper Limb Fellowship at Wrightington Hospital followed by a Fellowship in Plastic Hand Surgery. I have also won Fellowships at Harvard University and was awarded the prestigious British STACK Fellowship in 2013 and the American Board International ASSH Fellowship in 2014.
I am an examiner for the British and European Board Hand Diplomas and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester. I am also a faculty member on a number of surgical courses, including the preparation of senior surgical trainees for European and British Hand Diploma. I am the convenor for the BSSH Practical Masterclasses in hand surgery and the organising committee for the BSSH Instructional courses in Hand Surgery.
I am a member of The British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH), European Wrist Arthroscopy Society and The International Society for Sport Traumatology of the Hand. In addition to this, I am a council member for the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH), and Chair for the Communications Committee of The British Society for Surgery of the Hand.
