I was appointed Consultant Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 2005 as a General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) and Gastrointestinal Surgery. In my time as a Consultant, I have taken an interest and developed a reputation in hernia surgery. I have an international profile and am well known for my work on ‘Sports Hernias’ and consequently attract elite athletes from around the world.
I published the first consensus statement of the sports groin, which I re-defined as ‘inguinal disruption’. In March 2011 I was awarded a 'Visiting Professorship' in the United States for my hernia expertise. I undertake hernia surgery for over 30 professional clubs in the UK including football and rugby clubs.
I have a reputation for undertaking difficult and challenging cases as well as being a renowned laparoscopic (keyhole) surgeon in my field.
I am President of the British Hernia Society and on a subcommittee for both the European and American Hernia Societies. I am well published in the field of hernia and hepatobiliary surgery and have been granted a Vis personal chair in surgery by Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and also MAHSC Hon. Chair by the University of Manchester (UoM).
Many elite sports clubs, including premiership football clubs seek my expertise for groin injuries from the UK and also internationally.
