I went to medical school in Newcastle upon Tyne and trained in Newcastle, Liverpool and Leeds before moving to Salford in 1996. Over the last 10 years I developed the Salford Weight Management Services, which provides a holistic, patient-centred, multidisciplinary weight management service. This service includes dieticians, clinical psychologists, nurse specialists and bariatric surgeons.
I, with Professor Stanga, run a joint diabetic eye service. This ensures that patients get the best treatments both for their diabetic eye disease, and their diabetes. This joint approach ensures the best outcomes for people with diabetes.
I am a co-author on the Royal College of Physicians guidance for the treatment of obesity. I have presented at numerous national meetings about the effective treatments for weight loss in people with and without diabetes. Within Salford Royal I am involved in the insulin pump clinic and was appointed by the National Technology Appraisal Centre as one of the two national specialists in insulin pump therapy.
