The price shown is the ‘from price’ (ie the minimum cost of the procedure). Please note that for some procedures the actual price you are quoted may vary significantly and can increase depending on your choice of Consultant (who is an independent practitioner and not an employee of Spire). The fees charged by Consultants and Anaesthetists are set independently and are outside the control of Spire. The price may also vary depending on the type of anaesthetic, implant or drug used, and your medical history.
Spire Manchester Hospital can provide you with a single, fixed price for your procedure so there are no surprises. At Spire Manchester Hospital, we have wide experience of performing knee replacement surgery in our high-quality facilities.
We also offer some of the latest surgical techniques, which may be beneficial to some patients. This includes Mako robotic assisted technology which provides a personalised surgical plan for joint replacement surgery.
If your consultant thinks it’s right for you, they may perform a minimally invasive knee replacement. This usually means a faster recovery time and less scarring, while still achieving the same outcomes.
We also have six laminar flow operating theatres which regulate air flow to minimise the risk of infection.
Orthopaedic surgeons at Spire Manchester Hospital lead the way with Mako revolutionary hip and knee replacement technology.

Your consultations
For your appointments, you’ll meet your consultant in one of our 18 consultation rooms. All of our rooms are accessible, making things easier if you find walking difficult prior to knee replacement.
Our dedicated orthopaedic consultants specialise in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal (bone and muscle) conditions. Here’s what will happen before your treatment:
Your consultations give you an opportunity to ask questions and discuss your expectations, needs and desires. Your consultant will then be able to outline a treatment and care plan that’s tailored to you.
On the day of your procedure, our ward staff will show you to your room and get you settled in. If you’ve come with a friend or family member, they’re welcome to wait in our lounge or restaurant while you have your operation.
Your consultant and surgical team will prepare you for your operation.
Anaesthetic options
Your anaesthetist will decide which anaesthetic is best for you. It will probably be a spinal anaesthetic with sedation, where you’ll be numb from the waist down.
Visit our main knee replacement page for more information about the procedure.
During your operation
Your consultant will make the necessary incisions and begin to remove worn or damaged areas of your knee joint. They’ll then fit your new knee and close your incisions.
The operation should take no more than ninety minutes. You’ll start your recovery at Spire Manchester Hospital, staying with us for one to three days.
After surgery, you can begin your knee surgery recovery in one of our private rooms. All of our rooms have:
Our nursing team will give you pain relief to help you deal with any pain from the surgery. Everyone experiences pain differently and they’ll make sure you’re comfortable and have everything you need.
Although everybody’s different and you should always follow your consultant’s advice, here’s a typical recovery timeline for knee replacement surgery:
