MBBS, MEd, FRCS(ORL-HNS), PhD
I am a USA fellowship-trained academic surgeon, working in the NHS as a Consultant ENT/Head and Neck Surgeon at the Liverpool Head and Neck Centre. I have over 17 years' experience in treating diseases of the head and neck. My clinical practice is based at Aintree University Hospital, which includes a tertiary head and neck cancer service for the patients of St Helens, Knowsley, Whiston and Warrington.
Having graduated from higher surgical training in London and the South-East, including specialist placements at St George’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital, and a research secondment to defend a PhD in cancer sciences, I went on to complete an advanced head and neck surgical oncology Fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. I then became the first UK trainee to be appointed to the prestigious Ablative and Reconstructive head and neck fellowship at University of Alabama (UAB, Birmingham, AL), where I received dedicated training in trans-oral robotic surgery at one of the early pioneering US centres for the technique.
As a surgeon scientist, I have an active role in the research and teaching activity of the University of Liverpool, and have been awarded over £2.5 million in research grants. I regularly present internationally on my clinical and research interests, am widely published in high impact specialty journals and have authored a number of textbook chapters. I am the Fellowship Director for the internationally renowned Shaun Jackson head and neck / thyroid fellowship in Liverpool, helping train the next generation of surgeons.
I have particular expertise in trans-oral surgery (robotic/laser) and in 2024, I was the first head and neck surgeon in Europe to have performed cancer resections on the new da Vinci Single Port (SP) robotic platform, as featured on ITV News.
I work closely with oncology colleagues to provide a fully comprehensive multidisciplinary service for patients with a new diagnosis of head and neck malignancy, and I am able to link with the regional Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) run out of Aintree University Hospital to ensure rapid cancer diagnostics and world-class care.
Please note that I do not consult on paediatric conditions, adult primary ear/dizziness symptoms, or chronic nasal conditions and will direct your request to an alternative otolaryngology specialist.
