I have been a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH) since 2015. I am interested in all aspects of general gastroenterology and have an extensive experience in treating a wide range of gastroenterological disorders. I have specific interests in the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel and colonic diseases. I have further expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy, sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy.
My undergraduate medical training was at the University of Cambridge where I was also awarded my PhD on immune responses to the gastrointestinal pathogen Salmonella. I completed my specialist training in Gastroenterology and General Medicine in the East of England Deanery. During this time I was awarded a four year National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Lectureship investigating the role of environmental and dietary factors in the aetiology and relapse of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, which lead to numerous research publications and book chapters.
In addition to my clinical work, I have been appointed as an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in Gastroenterology at the Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia, where I continue my research work on inflammatory bowel disease. I am the principal investigator and chair for the EPIC-IBD working group, a research consortium investigating non-genetic factors involved in the development of inflammatory bowel disease.
