MBBS, MD, MRCP, FRCPCH
I am an experienced paediatrician with more than 40 years of experience. Along with being a general paediatrician, I have developed expertise in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes over the past 24 years. I specialise in diagnosing and managing all paediatric conditions like headaches, abdominal pain, urine infections, bed wetting, cough, heart murmurs, glands, frequent infections, asthma and tiredness.
I have special expertise in children's hormone disorders causing poor growth, early puberty, late puberty, menstrual disorders, thyroid disorders, calcium disorders, vitamin D deficiency, obesity, failure to gain weight, metabolic bone disorders, type 1 and type 2 diabetes. I would be happy to consult children using insulin pumps and CGM technology.
Where necessary, I am happy to organise necessary investigations like X-rays, ultrasound, CT and MRI scans, heart scans, blood tests and EEGs to offer further reassurance to parents. I arrange tests as required for the purpose of diagnosis, management and monitoring of most general paediatric conditions, and specifically related to hormonal disorders in children.
I lead the Children's Diabetes Service at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust (NNUH). In the national pediatric diabetes audit, NNUH has shown better results over last six years compared to regional and national average. In my NHS work I organise and interpret dynamic testing for pituitary function tests and other endocrine investigations. I am an opinion leader for diabetes and use of technology.
I am a founder organiser of the regional education programme for paediatric professionals in Norwich called Norfolk Paediatric Education Group (NPEG), which runs monthly meetings. I am keen on education and have been a Royal College of Paediatrics tutor at NNUH, a training programme director for the East of England Deanery, examiner for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Children's Health (RCPCH) for the last 20 years and am currently a senior examiner and overseas examiner for the RCPCH clinical.
I became a consultant in 1997, having qualified in 1981 from Delhi. I did my MD (post graduation) at the University of Delhi, gaining experience in Delhi and Oman before moving to the UK in 1994 and completing further training in Leicester.
