I have been a consultant ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist at Nottingham University Hospital since 2000 and I am an Honorary Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Nottingham.
I completed a fellowship in glaucoma and glaucoma surgery and anterior segment and cornea before taking up my consultant post in 2000. My expertise is in the medical, laser and surgical management of glaucoma.
I qualified from University College Galway in 1987 and undertook my ophthalmology postgraduate training in the UK. I have received additional postgraduate degrees in glaucoma (MD) and medical teaching (MMedSci).
My primary research interest is in the clinical management of glaucoma particularly advanced glaucoma and patient centred delivery of care. I have received research funding support from the NIHR-HTA program, Glaucoma UK and Fight for Sight
I have published extensively in academic journals and lectured throughout the UK and Europe. I'm a past Chairman of the UK and Eire Glaucoma Society and currently Chairman of Glaucoma UK a patient support charity.
