I qualified from Birmingham University Medical School in 1984 and did my surgical training in Birmingham before becoming a registrar and senior registrar in Orthopaedics in Nottingham.

I spent a year as a Fellow in North Carolina, USA before being appointed as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham in 1996.
