If you've been experiencing a 'funny tummy' - bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, bleeding or pain in your stomach - your consultant will order some diagnostic tests. This is to help them determine if you have a disorder of the bowel.
During an initial appointment with a consultant, you will discuss your medical history and any symptoms you've been experiencing - such as constipation, diarrhoea, bloating and pain in your stomach. Your consultant might recommend additional testing to help determine the condition you have.

We offer a wide range of tests including blood samples and imaging such as CT, MRI scanning and endoscopy. This is a non-invasive procedure which examine the inside of your digestive tract using a flexible tube with a light and camera attached.
These all help to investigate and diagnose bowel disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, coeliac/celiac disease, colitis and bowel cancer.
Laboratory analysis of blood, stool and tissue samples might also be used to diagnose and manage these disorders. Other common tests include those for anaemia, iron and vitamin deficiency, and the presence of blood in stools.
