Dr James Good

Consultant Clinical Oncologist

BSc, Ph.D, MB BS, MSc Oncology

I trained in molecular biology and immunology at Cambridge University before completing clinical training at University College, London. After broad medical experience in London and Oxford, I chose to concentrate on cancer medicine and radiotherapy. Undertaking specialist training at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, I developed expertise in the use of advanced radiotherapy techniques and cancer drugs such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, radio-isotope treatment and immunotherapy.

I offer a comprehensive service to people with colorectal (bowel) cancer. This includes pre-operative radiotherapy using the most advanced techniques, and post-operative chemotherapy that is carefully tailored to the individual.

For people with more advanced cancer, I am able to coordinate a state-of-the-art approach that might combine drug treatment with CyberKnife radiotherapy or selective internal radiotherapy (SIRT). I work closely with surgical and radiology colleagues to get the best possible outcome for patients with bowel cancer affecting the liver.

I also offer highly targeted radiotherapy for hepatocellular cancer (liver), cholangiocarcinoma (gallbladder), and pancreatic cancer and for other types of cancer that has spread to the liver or lymph nodes.

Head and neck cancer is my second area of focus. This includes tumours originating in the jaw, tongue, tonsil, larynx, neck, salivary gland, sinus, and thyroid. People under my care who require radiotherapy have access to the world-class technology and multi-disciplinary support available at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, including intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and image-guided adaptive radiotherapy (TomoTherapy®).

Chemotherapy is available at Spire Parkway Hospital. I also specialise in drug treatment for cancer that has recurred or spread to other parts of the body. My ultimate priority, alongside the technical aspects of treating these complex cancers, is always the wellbeing of the person undergoing the treatment.
