I have been working as a senior upper gastro-intestinal specialist surgeon in Birmingham, for the last 10 years, at Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull NHS Trust and as an Honorary Consultant at Queen Elizabeth University Hospitals Trust.
My main interest is in oesophago-gastric (stomach and gullet) surgery and in particular laparoscopic surgery (keyhole surgery). Each year I perform over 100 laparoscopic cholecystectomies, 100 laparoscopic anti-reflux throat procedures and 400 laparoscopic gastric band insertions for bariatric obesity. I also perform hernia treatments and repair surgery. In particular laparoscopic repair of hiatus hernia with anti-reflux procedure.
I have set up and led the well-known Heartlands Hospital NHS surgical obesity service which serves approximately 10% of the population of England and hold a bariatric clinic at Spire Parkway Hospital, performing gastric band insertions.
I carry out valued clinical research into bariatric obesity surgery, weight loss procedures and weight reduction surgery. This work is presented regularly at national and international meetings and is published regularly in peer reviewed journals.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Paul Super at Spire include:
