Specialises in
As a Consultant in Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgery at University Hospitals Birmingham, I have a strong background in both fields, with a focus on laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques.
My primary interest is in all aspects of benign upper gastrointestinal and general surgery. In particular my focus is upon the use of keyhole surgery (laparoscopic) techniques. I perform gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy) and hernia repair surgery.
I completed my surgical training in London and was then selected for the prestigious fellowship in bariatric surgery at the internationally-recognised Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, which is an international centre of excellence for bariatric surgery. This has provided me with extensive experience in both upper gastrointestinal and general surgery.
I am passionate about surgical training and am Education Lead for my department. This role enables me to guide the training of the surgeons of the future. I have also completed a post-graduate certificate in medical education.
I have a strong academic background and have published over 50 research articles. I have completed a PhD at Imperial College London regarding the use of breath testing for early diagnosis of upper gastrointestinal disease. My primary research focus is now the use of large-scale data to improve patient outcomes.
