Specialises in
I am a highly experienced consultant in gastroenterology and hepatology and am passionately committed to improving clinical services. My practice encompasses the full range of liver conditions and I retain a broad expertise in gastroenterology and endoscopy, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including gastroscopy, sigmoidoscopy and colonscopy.
I established the hepatology (liver disease) service in Portsmouth in 2010 as a single-handed consultant and I have since led and developed the service into one of the largest in Southern England.
I am fully trained in the non-invasive assessment of the liver using the Fibroscan (transient elastography) procedure. I am keen to ensure my patients are able to access the very latest treatments and I have built a thriving clinical research programme in Portsmouth that has received national recognition for our delivery of clinical trials.
In addition to my expertise in managing liver conditions, I continue to see patients with a range of gastroenterology problems including abdominal pain, indigestion, reflux, diarrhoea and weight loss. I qualified as a doctor in 1992 and trained in hospital medicine, gastroenterology and hepatology in Liverpool, Sheffield, Cambridge and London.
I was a Lecturer at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital and was awarded a research PhD from Imperial College, London. In 2004, I moved to California and was Associate Hepatologist at the Scripps Liver Center in San Diego for two years. After returning to the UK, I was a consultant at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff before relocating to Portsmouth in 2010.
