Mr Marcel Geyer

Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon

MB BCh, DOHNS, FRCS(Ed)

I am a consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon and work at Spire Portsmouth Hospitals and Queen Alexandra, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. I have been a consultant for almost 15 years and worked as a doctor in the NHS for almost 30 years. My specialist interest is otology, concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the ear.

My practice also covers a wide variety of general ENT complaints such as ear wax, ear and sinus infections, nose bleeds, tonsillitis and other throat conditions. I have years of experience as a consultant surgeon and have performed thousands of operations.

I undertake regular weekly surgery involving all areas of ear disease such as grommets for glue ear, myringoplasty for ear drum perforations, tympanoplasty for cholesteatoma and other chronic middle ear disease, ossiculoplasty hearing bone replacement and repair, stapedectomy surgery for otosclerosis, cochlear implant surgery in patients of all ages for profound hearing loss. I perform bone anchored hearing aid surgery as an alternative to hearing aids, especially where these cannot be worn regularly.

I treat children and adults of all ages for ear conditions and hearing loss such as grommets for glue ear, myringoplasty repair of perforated ear drums, tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy for cholesteatoma removal and other chronic middle ear disease treatment as well as stapedectomy for otosclerosis treatment. I deal with hearing loss and complex hearing restoration surgery, including cochlear implantation. I manage dizziness resulting from conditions such as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) and Meniere’s disease and can arrange MRI imaging for tinnitus and refer onwards for specialist hearing assessments and therapy. I also perform adenoidectomy for children with snoring along with tonsillectomy.

As a cochlear implant surgeon, I am fortunate to work with the wonderful Auditory Implant Service team based at Southampton University (US AIS). In addition to Cochlear Implants for patients with profound hearing loss, I also provide a wide range of surgical alternatives to hearing aids, such as Bone Conducting Hearing Devices and middle ear hearing implants.

I have previously held positions as the lead ENT clinician for the Spire children’s cleft lip and palate service twinned with Oxford for over a decade. I was also the head of the ENT department in Salisbury for three years over the Covid pandemic. And was a member medical advisory committee (MAC) New Hall hospital Salisbury, for five years.
