An MRI scan is used to plan the use of the Signature custom guides for the surgeon, giving optimal recovery for the patient.
An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) 3D scan is used to plan the use of the Signature custom femoral and tibial alignment guides, that enables the surgeon to create a detailed pre-operative surgery plan, tailored to the patient's specific requirements.
The Signature technology and custom made alignment guides allow the surgeon to accurately recreate the patient’s original limb alignment providing a knee replacement which replicates the patient’s unique anatomy. By recreating the patient’s individual anatomy the surgeon can provide the optimal post operative result.
This less invasive surgical procedure, is similar to a traditional knee replacement but without the requirement to place instruments inside the thigh and shin bone to assist with alignment and positioning. This can significantly effect the outcome of the procedure by reducing medical complications and long term loosening rates.

During the knee replacement procedure, an assortment of instruments are used to verify component sizing, establish proper positioning and remove bone and cartilage. Traditional total knee replacement sometimes uses instruments placed inside the thighbone and/or shinbone to assist with implant alignment and positioning.
Signature personalised positioning guides are placed directly onto your thighbone and shinbone, and therefore do not require instrumentation of the bone canal, allowing for a potentially less invasive procedure and a reduced number of instruments used during surgery.
We are committed to delivering excellent individual care and customer service across our network of hospitals, clinics and specialist care centres around the UK. Our dedicated and highly trained team aim to achieve consistently excellent results. For us it's more than just treating patients, it's about looking after people.
The treatment described on this page may be adapted to meet your individual needs, so it's important to follow your healthcare professional's advice and raise any questions that you may have with them.
