I graduated from University of Bristol Medical School in 1988 and trained in general and vascular surgery at University College London, Sheffield, and Bristol. The emphasis of my private practice is the expert treatment of varicose veins. Since 2004 I have embraced and practiced the minimally invasive techniques for treating varicose veins.
Endovenous treatments have virtually eliminated the need for groin incision and stripping, leading to significantly improved patient satisfaction and early return to normal activity. This has subsequently been endorsed by NICE guidance CG168 on varicose veins. This guideline recommends all varicose veins patients undergo a duplex ultrasound scan to determine the cause treatment with endothermal ablation whenever possible, followed by ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy. Only if this was not possible should conventional varicose vein surgery be considered. This had been my approach for over a decade.
I also undertake a comprehensive range of arterial vascular operations and transthoracic sympathectomy for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Isaac Nyamekye at Spire include:
Vascular surgery
Other treatments
COVID-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service at Spire South Bank Hospital.
I have been actively involved in venous research for over two decades. My current national and international collaborations as Principle Investigator in Multicentre Trials include the CLASS Trial (Comparison of Laser, Surgery and foam Sclerotherapy), the EVRA study (Early Venous Reflux Ablation in Venous Ulceration) and the CLEANER clinical trial. My own NHS sponsored research study comparing the 3 main Radiofrequency devices (Venefit™ - ‘ClosureFast™’, Radiofrequency Induced Thermal Therapy - ‘RFITT’ and Endovenous Radiofrequency - ‘EVRF’) in a clinical study of varicose veins treatment is ongoing. I take great interested in training the next generation of Endovenous Specialists and have guided and collaborated with many towards national presentations and publications.
I am a co-founding director of The Vein Clinic Limited and undertake private practice in Worcestershire at Spire South Bank Hospital. I have national responsibilities that include acting as Specialist Advisor for their NICE Interventional Procedures Programme where I have advised on several varicose vein procedures including ClariVein® and Foam sclerotherapy. I am an elected member of Council of the Venous Forum of the Royal Society of Medicine in London and, since 2010, I have been one of its three executive officers and the Forum’s Honorary Treasurer. I have presented and authored on a wide range of vascular subjects and I review papers for a number of international medical journals.
Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, Worcestershire Royal Hospital
Outside of work I am a keen follower competitive sport, having previously played rugby, squash and cricket. I am a keen supporter of, and debenture holder, at Worcester Rugby Club. When the weather and my young family permit, I succumb to the challenge of trying to keep a golf ball under control..
