Oncology & Haematology Suite recognised for its high quality cancer care environment
30 January 2020
Spire South Bank Hospital is celebrating their achievement, after once again receiving a prestigious award that recognises high standards in cancer care.
Rebecca Hardman, Oncology and Haematology Suite Lead Nurse commented “The Oncology and Haematology Suite was first awarded the MQEM in 2016, on review in December 2019 we were re-awarded accreditation with very complimentary comments. We were thrilled to have been congratulated on how our team showed a passion for providing the highest standard of care within the small but efficient environment. With this in mind, we have established links with Worcestershire Macmillan Hub to be able to provide support for cancer patients living with or beyond cancer. We are also working in collaboration with Macmillan to further train our staff to become Macmillan accredited”.
The suite’s multidisciplinary team comprising of surgeons, oncologists, pharmacists and specialist nurses work together to deliver personalised programmes of treatment and care for a wide range of cancers. The overriding aim is to provide patients with the highest standard of treatment, expert information and personal support through each stage of their treatment, whilst ensuring they feel safe, confident and reassured at all times.
Carole Brooks, Head of Clinical Services, added “I am delighted that our Oncology team has successfully retained the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark for the second time. This accolade is testament to the dedication and commitment that the team apply on a daily basis - ensuring that our patients who are living with cancer are treated in a care environment that meets required standards, receive individualised care, and the best possible experience as a service user”.
