Spire South Bank Hospital announces cardiac MRI service
13 February 2025
- Diagnoses for patients experiencing cardiac issues across the Three Counties has become easier thanks to a new service introduced at Spire South Bank Hospital
New technology rolled out at Spire South Bank Hospital has led the provider to become one of the only private hospitals in the region to offer private cardiac MRI scans, allowing patients requiring specialist cardiac imagery rapid access to a diagnosis and further treatment.
A cardiac MRI scan shows extremely detailed pictures of a patient’s heart, providing the consultant and clinical teams with a clear understanding of what problems the patient is facing to support in planning appropriate treatment. Cardiac MRI scans help diagnose heart failure, heart valve disease and heart tumours.
Sarah Barker, Imaging Manager at Spire South Bank Hospital, said: “We have been so excited to get this service live at Spire South Bank Hospital. Having this service at South Bank means our local community is able to receive the care and support they need, conveniently and quickly.”
The new service comes following a recent upgrade to the on-site MRI equipment following a £5,000 investment.

Mr Baker, one of the first patients to undergo a cardiac MRI scan at Spire South Bank Hospital, commented: “I had a great experience at Spire South Bank Hospital. I was initially apprehensive of going in the scanner, but the Radiographers made me feel at ease and explained everything really well. Being able to have this scan done so locally and quickly has taken some of the pressure off me, meaning all I need to wait for now is my next review with my consultant!”
Dawn Pickrell, Hospital Director at Spire South Bank Hospital, said: “We are extremely pleased to be able to continue investing in our equipment and services at Spire South Bank Hospital to allow those living in the local community fast access to the care, treatments and investigations they need. Offering cardiac MRI scans will allow us to continue to make a difference to people's lives through outstanding personalised care.”
