I graduated from medical school in Sheffield in 1992 with Honours. I trained in general medicine in Sheffield passing the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1995 and then went on to specialist training in Clinical Oncology at Leeds, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in 1998. I spent a year in clinical research as a Clinical Fellow in the Palliative Radiation Oncology Programme at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Canada between 2000/2001.
I was appointed a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Southampton in early 2002 with a subspecialty interest in urological malignancies. I am Lead Clinician for Urological Malignancies. My main interests involve the non-surgical treatment of prostate cancer including radical external beam radiotherapy, permanent prostate brachytherapy seed implants, hormone therapy, chemotherapy and radio-isotope treatments for bone secondaries.
I also have interests in bladder cancer, radiotherapy for testicular cancer, and am the Lead Oncologist in Wessex for non-surgical treatment of penile cancer as part of the supra-regional multidisciplinary team led by Mr N Watkin at St George’s Hospital. I set up - and continue to run - the Southampton Prostate Brachytherapy Seed Implant service in early 2006. I am a founding member and executive committee member of the British Uro-Oncology Group.
