I qualified at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School directly entering the Royal Air Force on a Short Service Commission. I then entered the Wessex School of Anaesthetics to complete my postgraduate training in Anaesthetics and Pain Medicine. I completed a Masters Degree at the University of Wales and became an Hon Tutor for the degree programme. I was appointed as a Consultant in Anaesthesia at the University Hospital Southampton (UHS) in 2000, and went onto a joint post with Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia. I no longer practice anaesthesia.
I entered the world of Medical Education and held various roles between 2003 and 2010 at UHS including Director of Medical Education for three years. I worked with my team to develop and establish local community based Chronic Pain Services, which was recognised through various National Awards.
I have worked with my colleague Mr Vajramani to establish the first commissioned neuromodulation clinic for pain in Hampshire, based at UHS. I have held Clinical Director Posts both at UHS and in the Community between 2010 and 2013, where upon I was appointed Director of Education in Southern Health. I continue my NHS Pain Medicine practice in the Community Hospitals of SW Hampshire.
