"Spire Southampton Hospital provides a quieter, calmer environment with your child to be seen with time. The development of children's services is lead and run by people passionate about providing the best for your child and you."
I have been a consultant for just over five years. In that time I have developed the cerebral palsy and neuromuscular service at Southampton.
I have extensive experience of hip reconstruction, knee realignment and tendon releases in neuromuscular disorders. Basically every orthopaedic requirement for cerebral palsy except spinal surgery.
In foot and ankle I cover most paediatric disorders including bunions, bunionettes, flat feet, high arched feet and malalignment. Southampton Children's is a major trauma centre so I have huge experience with any fractures or breaks or the complications that arise afterwards.
I have performed over a hundred neuromuscular hip reconstructions (most consultant roles would do around five a year). I have over 400 children with neuromuscular disorders on my caseload at Southampton Children's Hospital.
I am the Clinical lead for Paedatric Orthopaedics and Trauma at Southampton Children's Hospital. I sit on the NCEPOD committee for cerebral palsy care, looking at provision of service at a National level.
I have had key international mentors such as Dr Hank Chambers, Dr Jon Davids, Dr Kerr Graham who have allowed me to deliver a modern and cutting edge service quickly. I now work alongside Mr Alex Aarvold and Miss Mari Thiart as colleagues in this area. I am often involved in early assessment of children with 'funny walks' to ensure nothing more worrying is going on.
I have an established foot and ankle practice working alongside Mr Michael Uglow as my local mentor and Vince Mosca as my international tutor.
I have had the pleasure of treating a number of paralympic athletes. I also have had significant experience with challenging dystonic and athetoid movement disorders.
Orthopaedics is about treating each family as an individual and maximising movement and enjoyment of life. I pride myself on giving the time to get to know your child to guide us to the best treatment for them.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Miss Caroline Edwards at Spire include:
