"Spire Southampton provides high quality clinical care for children with surgical conditions in a friendly compassionate, child centred environment combined with first class clinical facilities."
I am a Consultant Paediatric and Neonatal Surgeon at Spire Southampton and the Candover Clinic in Basingstoke. My NHS post is at Southampton Children's Hospital and I am Associate Professor of Paediatric Surgery at the University of Southampton. I have experience spanning across all areas of general and specialist children's surgery and urology. I only treat children and young people meaning that I can ensure that consultations and treatments are offered in a way that is age appropriate. I am experienced at communicating with all age of children, their parents and families.
I offer a full range of general surgical procedures in children and young people including where possible minimally invasive treatments (keyhole surgery). This includes removing skin lesions, hernia repair, undescended testes, circumcision and tongue tie correction. I also perform a full range of gastrointestinal surgery and provide vascular access and oncology surgery in children. I provide in-depth consultations in a child-friendly environment ensuring I can build on a foundation of trust with you and your child.
I qualified from Cambridge University in 1997 and completed an extensive training scheme in Cambridge, London and Southampton. I undertook a research fellowship at the prestigious University College London and a doctorate from the University of London. I completed my paediatric surgical training at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London and the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada. I have a strong academic background that has led me to be heavily involved in research and I am the UK lead for multicentre research in paediatric surgery.
I am on the editorial board of the journals Paediatric Surgery International, the European Journal of Paediatric Surgery and BMJ Paediatrics Open. I am a member of the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England
In addition to my clinical work i am an Associate Professor of Paediatric Surgery at the University of Southampton.
