I am a paediatric orthopaedic consultant at Southampton General Hospital and 100% of my practice is dedicated to looking after children with orthopaedic conditions. I graduated from Edinburgh Medical School and my orthopaedic training took place in Bristol followed by Sydney. I am passionate about my work and really enjoy getting to know families and helping treat their kids get back on track and maximise their potential.
I specialise in the assessment and management of a whole host of childhood orthopaedic conditions from assessing limbs and funny walks to checking painful feet or injured knees and wrists. As a surgeon I have expertise in performing many different kinds of orthopaedic operations, however I am used to making recommendations about lots of non-surgical treatments for your child like physiotherapy, splints and insoles.
I am competent in many different children's orthopaedic surgical operations on arms and legs from treating flatfeet and ankle injuries, to removing bony lumps or ganglions, to more complex hip surgery. I am good at providing structured advice about how to rehabilitate back to normal function and participation in sports.
My sub-specialist interests include assessing babies and children with foot and limb deformities and I run the CTEV (clubfoot) service with my colleague Mr Barry. I am also part of the neuromuscular team helping to assess and treat arm and leg problems in children with cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders.
I also run general children's orthopaedic clinics in Southampton and Poole where I assess and treat all sorts of childhood conditions from bunions and ganglions to trigger thumbs.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Simon Bennet at Spire include:

As a dad with young kids I understand the anxieties and challenges of parenthood and I appreciate how important swift assessment, treatment and reassurance is to families.
Outside of work I enjoy rock climbing and mountaineering, rugby, triathlon, open water swimming and attempting to surf.
