Christopher Edwards is a Consultant Rheumatologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Southampton University Hospitals. Dr Edwards has a clinical interest in the treatment of autoimmune rheumatic diseases including systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. He trained in rheumatology at the Lupus Unit at St Thomas' Hospital in London and was a Lecturer and Senior Registrar at The Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology in London. He spent a year at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore and gained clinical experience in the management of severe lupus cases.
Dr Edwards has an interest in the environmental causes of autoimmune rheumatic disease and new therapies for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
The clinical rheumatology department of Southampton General Hospital has received a number of awards for its work. These include the Hospital Doctor Rheumatology Department of the year for 2005, A National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society Healthcare Champions award in 2006 and The MedicAlert Healthcare Champions Award for Hospital Care in 2007.
