MD, FRCS, FRCS (Orth), Eur Dip (Hand Surgery)
I am the senior hand surgeon in Wessex with my NHS practice based at the regional teaching hospital at the University Hospital Southampton. I hold the European Diploma of Hand Surgery which is the highest European qualification available in hand surgery. I am surgeon to Southampton Football Club and have looked after many elite athletes. My hand clinic is based on constant technical practice, education and reflection to ensure I can provide the most up-to date, safe and appropriate care.
I am specialised in hand and wrist conditions. I have particular experience in Dupuytren's disease (to include Xiapex), arthritis, sports injuries, wrist joint problems and nerve problems (carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel and rarer conditions). Please see these websites for details www.handsurgery.co.uk and www.collagenase.co.uk
When you come to my hand clinic I will do my best to diagnose your problem, learn about what you want and help you decide what is best for you. I will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of each potential treatment. Although surgical treatment might be needed, wherever possible we try safe and simple non-operative treatments such as therapy and injections.
I have a very large surgical experience over 18 years of consultant practice. Nevertheless, I will always consider and discuss non-surgical options with my patients.
I am on the editorial boards of the Bone and Joint Journal, Journal of Hand Surgery, Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons and Italian Hand Journal.
As a professor, I have the opportunity to teach, research, write and attend postgraduate meetings which give unrivalled opportunities to remain informed and current. I have written dozens of research papers and book chapters and learned articles on hand surgery. My teaching, research, and international reputation were rewarded by the University of Southampton with an honorary professorship in 2013. My NHS contribution has been rewarded with a Bronze Clinical Excellence award.
