Why choose Spire Southampton Hospital for weight loss surgery?

Pre-assessment

Before surgery you will have a pre-assessment appointment with our multidisciplinary team which includes our bariatric nurse, dietitian, anaesthetist and (where appropriate) a clinical psychologist to check your suitability for surgery and detect any underlying problems. If you go ahead with surgery the cost of the pre-assessment is included in your package price. If you decide not to go ahead then you will be required to pay for your pre-assessment.

Your hospital stay

Your stay and care in hospital will be explained to you by our bariatric pre-assessment nurse including expected length of stay, immediate post surgery observations carried out, drug requirements, physiotherapy involvement and your provision of fluids while you are on our bariatric ward.

Discharge from hospital

You will be given instructions before you go home regarding wound care, medicines, mobilisation and exercise, your dietary needs, vitamin supplementation and follow-up appointments. You will also be given contact details for the bariatric ward if you feel unwell or have any concerns when you return home.

Follow-up

This is an essential part of your weight loss surgery to adjusting to the changes made to your digestive system. We provide long term follow-up to support you after your procedure to help with the necessary changes in your lifestyle including diet and exercise to enable you to achieve maximum benefit from the surgery.

Follow-up appointments are usually led by our dietitian with access to the rest of the team where necessary. Appointments are flexible and the frequency will depend on your needs and progress. You can also arrange for telephone or email follow-up consultations if necessary.

For the gastric band procedure some patients may need to see the consultant again to have adjustments made to the band. The number of adjustments varies from patient to patient and a minimum of three are included in the price but not all patients need this many. Please speak to your consultant about band adjustments when you have your initial consultation.

Patient support groups

You will be given details of local support groups in your area as well as website details and a link to our confidential facebook support group.

Support group meetings are open to patients and relatives before and after surgery where you can share information and concerns.

Our prices

Your price quotation will be made clear to you before you have any consultations, tests or proceed with surgery. Our guide prices are based on what you would be expected to pay without a medical history or previous conditions which would require additional tests or treatment.
