I am a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist, trained in adult and paediatric cardiology. After completing my undergraduate training at St George’s Hospital, London, in 1988, I gained postgraduate experience at various centres of excellence including St George’s, The Brook, King’s College, Great Ormond Street, and The Manchester Heart Centre.
Having regularly undertaken diagnostic coronary angiography since 1989, I performed my first coronary angioplasty in 1990 (before intracoronary stent implantation became a modern-day standard of care) and my first catheter ablation procedure in 1991. I have more than 25 years of experience in these disciplines.
In 2003, at St George’s Hospital, I pioneered left atrial appendage closure - an interventional technique to reduce stroke and bleeding risk in eligible patients with atrial fibrillation and I am now a key opinion leader in this area.
My subspecialist work mainly comprises the evaluation and management of patients with heart rhythm disorders and coronary artery disease.
My academic interests are focused on interventional cardiovascular techniques to improve outcomes following percutaneous stent implantation, to treat resistant hypertension and to prevent embolic and haemorrhagic stroke in patients with high risk atrial fibrillation.
