I am a Consultant Surgeon at St George's Hospital. I am the lead Upper GI Surgeon at St George's and I developed the South Thames Bariatric Service, which is the preferred provider for NHS bariatric (weight loss) surgery in the region.
I trained in London and Australia, where I trained in upper GI surgery, liver transplant, hepatobiliary surgery and laparoscopic surgery. My NHS and private practice spans a range of laparoscopic and open general surgery. I have a particular interest in laparoscopic gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, Roux en Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic and open hernia repairs. I perform anti-reflux surgery, such as laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication and surgery for achalasia for local and regional patients.
I've published on the management of biliary injuries following cholecystectomy, unusual hernias such as interparietal hernias and also follow up of hernia repairs performed with pre-peritoneal techniques. I perform cholecystectomy and hernia repairs as a day case when appropriate and use non-diathermy techniques such as Ultracision Harmonic Scalpel to avoid electrical conduction complications in laparoscopic surgery.
