Mr Mayank Nanavaty

I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with over 16 years of experience in Ophthalmology. I live in Surrey and I work as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.

I specialise in routine and complex cataract, refractive lens exchange, refractive laser eye surgery, keratoconus, Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy, modern lamellar keratoplasty and crosslinking.

My areas of clinical interests are medical and surgical cornea, external eye disease, cataract and refractive surgery.

I am a recipient of several research grants from the industry to conduct studies in the United Kingdom National Health Services (NHS). My areas of research interest include, astigmatism, wavefront aberrations, ectatic corneal disorders, endothelial disease, lamellar corneal transplant surgeries, quality of vision in pseudophakes, cataract surgical techniques, intraocular lenses and posterior capsule opacification. I have several publications including randomised controlled trials, Cochrane review, case-control studies, cohort studies and retrospective studies in high impact peer-review ophthalmic literature.

In addition to my clinical and surgical work I am proud to be a Honorary Senior Clinical lecturer at the Brighton & Sussex Medical School. I am the founder and medical director of Sussex Eye Laser Clinic. I am also a council member and member of Scientific Committee of the UKISCRS (United Kingdom & Ireland Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery). I am an active member of the CertLRS (Certificate of Laser Refractive Surgery) sub-committee at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

I am a member of AAO (American Academy of Ophthalmology), ASCRS (American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery), ESCRS (European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery), EuCornea (European Cornea Society), International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) and British Society of Refractive Surgery (BSRS).
