Virtual consultations:
I studied at St Andrews and Manchester University. My basic surgical training was undertaken around Manchester before gaining entry into the South West Thames rotation. Throughout my training I have had a strong interest in spinal surgery. I tailored my rotation towards spine and worked with most of the spinal consultants on the South West Thames rotation. I accumulated three years of experience in degenerative, tumour and trauma surgery and consolidated my training with a 12 month fellowship in adult and paediatric deformity, and complex revision at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH). I was then appointed as a locum spinal consultant at the RNOH for 16 months to continue developing my skills to the highest standard.
My experience has been very 'hands on' based and firmly addressing 'the coal face' of orthopaedic and spinal surgery. This is reflected in my clinical practice by showing excellent clinical outcomes and patient experience. With a strong foundation and emphasis towards patient care, the path is set for the natural progression and rewarding career in research and education. I have been invited to join the Complex Spine Study Group and plan to collate and present my results throughout my career.
Before taking up my substantive NHS post I had been involved in over 300 anterior and posterior scoliosis operations, 165 lumbar decompression and fusions, 130 lumbar decompressions, 50 cervical procedures and 60 trauma and tumour cases. I have strongly believed to take advantage of every training opportunity.
Research interests: Lumbar degeneration and deformity, Sagittal Imbalance, MIS surgery.
