Spire St Anthony Hospital receives ‘You’re Welcome’ accreditation for Children and Young People’s Service

17 December 2024

Spire St Anthony’s Hospital offers a specialised surgery service for children aged three and over, and outpatient consultations from birth for both privately insured and self-funding patients. They offer a full range of children and young people’s services from initial consultation through to treatment and surgery.

The ‘You’re Welcome’ accreditation sets out eight standards aiming to improve the quality and access to health and wellbeing services for young people. Led by the Children and Young People Team, the hospital passed the final assessment in September, demonstrating the outstanding care provided to young people..

The standards cover service delivery and environment, accessibility, confidentiality and consent, service quality, digital approaches, staff skills and training, linked support and promotion of other services such as mental health and supporting the changing needs of young people.

Spire St Anthony's Hospitals' facilities are designed to be child and young person friendly. The outpatient and inpatient departments have dedicated spaces for children and young people including age-appropriate activities and patient information. The waiting room has recently been refurbished to provide a more welcoming space for service users including sensory toys for patients with additional needs.

New signposting materials were also created to direct young people to relevant local services, and the team hosted an open day which included a tour of the facilities and welcomed young people and their families to feedback on the service with any suggestions for improvements.

Patients can also feedback through a recently launched QR code survey which is displayed throughout the hospital. This survey highlights what matters to young people engaging with healthcare services, and how their experience can be improved to facilitate positive healthcare interactions.

The children and young people’s services are run with the assistance of a specialised nursing team to help support and guide the patient’s journey.

Eleanor Barron, Children and Young People’s Services Lead, said: “At Spire St Anthony’s Hospital we recognise the importance of investing in the health of young people by improving their healthcare experiences and empowering them to take charge of their well-being, which will encourage their engagement with healthcare in the future. With 10 million young people in England, this approach supports healthier outcomes for individuals and the UK as a whole”
