Specialises in
I am an experienced Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician, having been a consultant at a local NHS Trust Wexham Park hospital, Frimley Health Foundation Trust since 2006.
I practice general obstetrics and gynaecology with special expertise in reproductive medicine. Through my extensive training and experience I have helped many women who have had problems with fertility, miscarriage, pelvic pain, period problems and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
I perform my own transvaginal scans in the clinic to make a diagnosis and this saves time as it’s a One Stop approach which many women find convenient. Heavy periods often need hysteroscopy to diagnose the cause and treatment can often be done at the same time. I often use the Mirena coil but also offer minimally invasive techniques such as Novasure to help with heavy periods.
I perform keyhole surgery to diagnose cause for painful periods, painful sex or pelvic pain or to treat ovarian cysts; usually this is a day case procedure under general anaesthetic. I perform surgery for fibroids which can be done through a hysteroscope (no cuts on tummy) if they are mainly inside the womb cavity (submucosal), but if they are large and outside the cavity, a tummy operation would be needed.
I qualified from King's College Hospital Medical School, London in 1986. I completed my general postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology in London and obtained specialised training in Infertility and IVF at the Guy's and St Thomas' Assisted Conception Unit.
I like to get to know my patients well in a holistic way so that I tailor their treatment around their individual needs and preferences and it's important for me to ensure that emotional wellbeing and lifestyle issues are addressed during a consultation.
I like to see the couple together, and male factor is addressed with further special expertise from a Male factor specialist as needed; it is important that both partners are assessed. I will arrange all the tests needed to work out why there may be a delay in conceiving and address factors which a couple can address themselves to improve fertility and plan for a healthier pregnancy.
Some women who come to see me have medical or gynaecological issues which need to be addressed prior to starting fertility treatment. For example, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) diagnosis has sometimes not been made and requires the work up and appropriate treatment with ovulation induction including support with weight loss and medication as needed. Some women require surgery for fibroids, endometriosis or tubal surgery as part of the work-up.
As some of the couples may need assisted conception (intrauterine insemination/IVF/ICSI) I work closely with Thames Valley Fertility in Maidenhead where my patients have their IVF treatment. I am happy to carry out the full assessment for the patients to diagnose and possibly treat the cause of the infertility and refer on after full counselling for IVF as needed. Specialised tests for the tubes, male partner testing and blood tests are arranged as needed.
Many women are apprehensive when they make an appointment with a Gynaecologist, and I hope that we at Spire can make that experience easier and I look forward to helping many more women with their gynaecological and fertility issues.
I am keen to provide continuity of care through into pregnancy and it gives me great pleasure to look after my patients once they conceive should they require consultant care in the local NHS maternity unit at Wexham Park Hospital.
I am Lead Clinician for Reproductive Medicine at Wexham Park Hospital, FHFT.
As Site Director and Associate Professor in Clinical Obstetrics and Gynaecology for the American University of the Caribbean I am privileged to lead the training of future doctors who come to our hospital for its excellent clinical training.
Similarly, my role as Elected RCOG Fellows' representative for Thames Valley and Wessex on RCOG Council gives me a chance to contribute and learn in a forum of senior specialists and be aware of the changes affecting Women's health globally.
I am on various committees and contribute as speaker and chair at RCOG educational events. I was delighted to be appointed as the Gynaecology representative on the Medical Advisory Committee at the Spire Thames Valley hospital in 2024.
