We understand that having bariatric surgery is a life changing decision and we are here to support you every step of the way
At Spire Washington Hospital we provide support throughout your weight loss journey both before and after your surgery. The cost of this initial consultation is not included in the price of the surgery.
Your first call or email regarding weight loss surgery will be handled by one of our friendly customer sales advisers, led by Sharon Day, who will answer any initial questions and provide estimate costs for surgery for you.
If you are interested in having a weight loss consultation, an appointment will be made with one of our consultant bariatric surgeons here at the hospital. Following this consultation, if you have decided to opt for surgery, you will have a meeting with one of our dietitians who will advise on the dietary implications of your surgery and you may also have an appointment with our psychologist.
A final consultation with your surgeon will be made to talk through any final questions you may have and to confirm a date for your surgery.
At Spire Washington Hospital we have a quarterly weight loss support group which meet at the hospital. These meetings are free to attend and are open to patients and relatives before and after surgery where you can share information and concerns and ask any questions you may have.
Your price quotation will be made clear to you before you have any consultations, tests or proceed with surgery. Our guide prices should give you a good idea of what you can expect to pay, but note that these are based on what you would be expected to pay without a medical history or previous conditions which would require additional tests or treatment. The price that you will actually pay will be confirmed to you by the hospital.
Your stay and care in hospital will be explained to you by our bariatric pre-assessment nurse including expected length of stay, immediate post surgery observations carried out, drug requirements, physiotherapy involvement and your provision of fluids while you are on our ward.
You will be given instructions before you go home regarding wound care, medicines, mobilisation and exercise, your dietary needs, vitamin supplementation and follow-up appointments. You will also be given contact details for our ward if you feel unwell or have any concerns when you return home.
This is an essential part of your weight loss surgery to help you adjust to the changes made to your digestive system. We provide long term follow-up to support you after your procedure to help with the necessary changes in your lifestyle including diet and exercise to enable you to achieve maximum benefit from the surgery.
Follow-up appointments are usually led by our dietitian with access to the rest of the team where necessary. Appointments are flexible and the frequency will depend on your needs and progress.
For the gastric band procedure some patients may need to see the consultant again to have adjustments made to the band. The number of adjustments varies from patient to patient and a minimum of three are included in the price but not all patients need this many. Please speak to your consultant about band adjustments when you have your initial consultation.
We also would be able to advise or re operate after investigations in post bariatric patients who have regained weight. The procedure may be endoscopic or surgical depending on reevaluation of primary surgery.
