I was born in the North East of England and graduated from Leeds University Medical School in 1999. I am a Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine and have worked in professional sport since 2002.
I am Director of Medicine and Performance at Sunderland AFC after being initially being appointed in 2008. I also worked internationally as England U20 Team Doctor with the U20 FIFA World Cup Winning squad 2017 in South Korea and Team Doctor for England Senior One Day Cricket teams 2018 successful tour of Sri Lanka. I also currently work with professional jockeys at Newcastle Racecourse and as Medical Officer at Durham County Cricket Club.
Whilst working regularly with elite athletes I am equally comfortable working with amateur and non-sporting patients suffering from musculoskeletal problems. I have a passion to help like-minded and passionate, amateur sportsmen and women return to their chosen sport as quickly and safely as possible. I work within the NHS as a Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine and am the Musculosketal Medicine Clinical Lead in Sunderland where I consult with adults of all ages suffering from a wide range of joint and soft tissue problems effecting both their general mobility and exercise.
I have lectured at a range of national and international conferences whilst also being actively involved in the training of junior doctors and am an Elected Member on the Council of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (UK).

I personally enjoy participating in a wide range of sports being awarded University colours in Basketball at and most recently returning to competitive running and running in local league harrier competitions. In any free time I enjoy spending time with my wife as we attempt to keep up with the social lives of our three young children!
