I was appointed in 2002 to my current post as consultant in general and interventional cardiology at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne. I maintain an extremely busy clinical practice in all aspects of general cardiology in addition to delivering high volume coronary intervention (angiography, angioplasty and other interventional procedures) at Freeman Hospital Cardiothoracic Centre.
In 2007 I was appointed Clinical Director of Cardiothoracic Medicine at Freeman Hospital. I graduated from Edinburgh University Medical School in 1990 as one of only five students awarded their medical degree with honours. During my undergraduate career I achieved a BSc in medical sciences with first class honours and a number of awards. My post-graduate grounding in cardiology was gained at Freeman Hospital in the early 1990s before I pursued research in London at the National Heart and Lung Institute. I was awarded an MD from Imperial College in 1999 and completed senior cardiology training at the Royal Brompton and St George's Hospitals in London.
