Virtual consultations:
I am a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist focus on knee problems in adults over the age of 60. I manage a wide range of conditions affecting the knee, including ligament and cartilage injuries, knee instability, persistent pain and arthritis.
I regularly treat patients with osteoarthritis of the knee and offer both partial and total knee replacement surgery where appropriate. I also have expertise in more specialised procedures, including meniscal root tear repair, tibial osteotomy (a procedure to realign the knee joint), and the treatment of sports-related knee injuries. My aim is to help patients improve their mobility, reduce pain and maintain an active, independent lifestyle.
I graduated from Newcastle University School of Medicine in 2006, where I first developed my interest in orthopaedic surgery. I went on to complete both my junior doctor training and Higher Specialist Orthopaedic Training across the North East and Cumbria.
After finishing my registrar training, I undertook two fellowships in Auckland, New Zealand. The first provided advanced experience in all aspects of knee surgery, while the second focused on hip and knee joint replacement surgery, further developing my skills in managing joint arthritis.
I was appointed as a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust in 2018.
I understand that knee problems can have a significant impact on day-to-day life, particularly as we get older. I take a patient-centred approach, aiming to fully understand your symptoms, concerns and goals. I work with you to explore the most suitable treatment options, whether that involves non-surgical management or surgery, and focus on delivering care that is tailored to your individual needs.
