Virtual consultations:
As an experienced Consultant ENT Surgeon practicing at the Spire Hospital in Washington, I welcome and see patients from County Durham, Darlington, North Yorkshire, Teesside, Tyneside and from as far as Cumbria.
I provide weekly clinics at Spire Washington Hospital and are happy to arrange remote consultations for patients where necessary. I offer outpatient procedures such as nasal endoscopy, wax removal and nasal cautery.
I offer clinic consultations for children at Spire Washington Hospital. If surgery is proposed, then this is conducted at their local NHS Hospital.
I graduated from the University of Aberdeen, undertaking further ENT training across Scotland and the North of England, and have been practicing exclusively in ENT since 2005.
As a full time Consultant ENT Surgeon at County Durham and Darlington NHS Hospitals, I provide a general Ear Nose and Throat service, offering consultations and operations for a wide range of adult and children's ENT conditions. Many ENT conditions can be successfully managed with medical treatment and outpatient procedures, without the need for surgery. I work closely with private Audiologists, Balance Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists to provide a full spectrum of care.
My subspecialty interest is in nasal conditions and I am the lead Rhinologist within my department, dealing with allergies, complex/revision sinus surgery, nasal polyps, nasal blockage/deformity due to trauma and deviated nasal septums. I also conduct dedicated Paediatric clinics, focusing predominantly on common childhood problems such as hearing loss, tonsillitis and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).
Having previously held posts both as Departmental Clinical Lead and also Clinical Governance Lead, I am enthusiastic about adopting innovative techniques to improve the patient experience.
I maintain a strong focus on patient safety with a belief that this can only be achieved through open and honest communication with my patients. I ensure that my patients fully understand their condition and the proposed treatment options available to them, and find that patients who are better informed throughout the process tend to experience better surgical outcomes.
I am a regular faculty member on National Courses in Septorhinoplasty/Facial Plastics and Endoscopic Sinus Surgery. I have a keen interest in research and am the research lead in my department. I am the Principal Investigator on a number of collaborative National and International Clinical Trials and also a co-applicant on a large National Grant Award, regularly publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
