MB BS, FRCS (Ed), Cert Ed
I qualified from Newcastle University in 2001 and then went on to complete my basic and higher surgical training in Yorkshire and the North East where I specialised in breast and reconstructive surgery. I trained in all the major breast screening units in our region, gaining great experience in the assessment and management of breast cancer and benign conditions.
Prior to becoming a consultant, I was appointed to a national advanced Training Interface Group (TIG) reconstructive and cosmetic fellowship. These fellowships are of limited numbers being approved by the General Medical Council. I undertook this at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and private hospitals in the Yorkshire region where I learned additional techniques in surgery and enhancing patient care. I commenced practice as a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast and General Surgeon in 2013 at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. I was appointed as a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at Gateshead Health NHS foundation Trust in 2016 where I now practice exclusively in breast surgery. I have a busy NHS and private practice having treated more than a thousand breast cancer cases and have shared my experiences with patient breast cancer support groups.
I am actively involved with research being a Principal Investigator for studies run through the National Institute for Health and Care Research, and have supported numerous trials throughout my career. This ensures I keep up to date with current medical evidence and best clinical practice. I am enthusiastic about medical education, being a surgical lead for medical students, an examiner for Newcastle Medical School and a faculty tutor for current surgical breast trainees and TIG fellows. I have also attained a formal postgraduate qualification in Medical Education from Newcastle University.
I specialise in all conditions related to benign and malignant breast disease and incorporate techniques from cosmetic and reconstructive surgery to improve cosmetic outcome following surgery.
