Specialises in
I am a highly qualified and experienced Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon specialising in Hip and Knee replacements, Knee arthroscopic surgery for meniscal injuries and orthopaedic trauma. My practice is based at Spire Washington Hospital and at the County Durham and Darlington NHS Trust.
My clinical practice comprises management of lower limb disorders, including hip and knee pain, arthritis, hip and knee replacements, knee meniscal injuries and general trauma.
Having completed my masters in evidence-based orthopaedics, I am keen to discuss all treatment options with patients including non-operative measures and explore surgical interventions only when it is in the best interest of my patients. I provide a shared decision-making approach, involving my patients in the entire process of their management, discussing, and offering the latest in evidence-based orthopaedics.
My success measures following hip and knee surgery are reflected by the patient reported outcome measures (PROMS) within the NHS Trust and the outcome data collected by the National Joint Registry.
I underwent my higher surgical orthopaedic training in the Northeast of England. I then underwent further fellowship training in hip and knee replacements at the University of Toronto and at the prestigious centre for hip surgery, Wrightington, UK and then the Golden Jubilee Hospital, Glasgow.
I was awarded the British Orthopaedic Association travelling fellowship to Endo-Klinik, Hamburg and University Hospital, Copenhagen, where I received training in rapid recovery programme following hip and knee replacements.
I have a keen interest in academic activities and are actively involved in teaching. I am the Royal College tutor for surgical trainees and orthopaedic surgical trainer at County Durham and Darlington NHS Trust. I am a faculty member at FRCS (Orth) preparatory courses and have hosted numerous presentations at national and international meetings, including the British Orthopaedic Association, European Orthopaedics, Canadian Orthopaedics and American Academy.
I have authored several publications and have co-authored a FRCS Orth book chapter. I am also a member of the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Hip Society.
