I have been a Consultant Gynaecologist at Southend University Hospital since 1992 and the lead in urogynaecology. I was the pioneer in early discharge following a vaginal hysterectomy (within 24 hours of surgery) in 1992 and was awarded the hospital prize for that.
I specialised in general gynaecology, but have a special interest in urogynaecology including prolapse and incontinence surgery.
To date I have performed over 2,000 vaginal hysterectomies, over 1,000 repairs (anterior or posterior) and over 200 TVT (tension free vaginal tapes). The majority of these women following vaginal hysterectomy and repairs went home within 24 hours of their surgery. I am also able to remove ovaries, including significant cysts, vaginally during their hysterectomy.
I have in the past given presentations of my work on vaginal hysterectomies and removal of significant ovarian cysts both at national and international level. I welcome appropriate patients wishing to refer and pay for treatment themselves without the need for a GP letter of referral.
