I was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in 2011 with specialist expertise in prostate diagnostics and treatment, management of stone disease and general urology.

I specialise in general urology with specific interests in advanced prostate diagnostics for raised PSA, incorporating multi-parametric MRI and comprehensive transperineal prostate biopsy - this has reduced infections and inconclusive transrectal biopsy, and most importantly is preferred by patients, short stay and day case laser prostate surgery (HoLEP) for urinary symptoms, management of kidney stones, and general urology including local anaesthetic circumcision, investigation of blood in the urine and testicle/scrotal conditions.

I currently carry out approximately 100 HoLEP (holmium laser enucleation of the prostate) procedures a year with 40% of patients as day cases and 80% discharged within 23 hours of surgery. I accommodate all sizes of prostate. I carry out a similar number of stone procedures per year. I lead the prostate diagnostic/raised PSA service at Southend with over 800 patients now evaluated.

This was following comprehensive training on the South Thames part of the London Specialist Registrar rotation. Prior to this I studied at Cambridge University and undertook a PhD on the subject of prostate cancer brachytherapy. In 2010 I received a commendation at the prestigious Royal Society of Medicine Young Trainee of the Year Awards.

I regularly teach on several courses including, Cambridge MRI prostate, Guy's prostate diagnostics, BAUS annual courses on HoLEP and prostate diagnostics, visiting faculty to Sri Lanka. I also established and convene the Transition course for senior urological registrars.

My clinical approach to patients is that they should receive the best available and up-to-date evidence-based care.
