Mrs Gail Pinnock

Specialist Obesity and Bariatric Surgery Dietitian

BSc Hons, RD, MBDA

"I have always been impressed with the professionalism of the staff and the standard of care they provide to their patients."

I have been a Specialist Obesity and Weight Management Dietitian for the last 14 years. I began my career at the Centre for Obesity Research working on Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials but for the last 12 years I have specialised in Bariatric Surgery working at three of the leading NHS Bariatric Centres and three private hospitals.

My clinical responsibilities include pre-assessing and preparing patients for Bariatric Surgery as well as managing their long term nutritional requirements.

I also have considerable experience working in non-surgical weight management using a combination of basic behaviour change skills and dietary advice to support patients in their aim to achieve a healthy weight.

In addition, I can offer dietetic advice on the following: general nutrition and healthy eating, eating for a healthy heart (cardio-protective diet), osteoporosis, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), glycaemic index (GI diet), vegetarian and vegan diets.

I have undertaken a number of advisory roles including: clinical advisor for the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) bariatric surgery report, member of the peer review team for the West Midlands Commissioning of Bariatric Surgery and a member of the Specialist Commissioning Group for Bariatric Surgery for London and the South East. In addition, I've undertaken medico-legal work reviewing the post-operative care of bariatric surgery patients.

I regularly teach on the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society introductory and advanced dietetic courses. I also deliver the Obesity and Bariatric Surgery module of an MSc course at the University of Surrey. I've written several articles on bariatric surgery and am also a contributing author to three key textbooks.
