Ms Rupi Grewal

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

FRCS (Orth.)

I am an Orthopaedic Surgeon at Spire Wellesley Hospital in Southend on Sea, Essex offering specialist private orthopaedic surgery for the elbow, wrist and hand in their clean and comfortable private hospital.

I am trained in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery and have a special interest in treating all problems of the hand, wrist and elbow and am trained to do arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery in the shoulder, elbow and wrist.

The hand is a unique part of the human body with a delicate and refined relationship between its various structures. Your hands help you eat, dress, write, earn a living, create art and do many other activities. To accomplish these tasks and activities, your hands require sensation and movement. An injury or disease can affect any or all of these structures and impair the use of your hands. Care must be given to all types of tissue.

I completed my orthopaedic training at the Royal London Hospital and then went on to do a research and clinical fellowship in upper limb surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, followed by a hand and microsurgery clinical fellowship in Louisville, Kentucky. My aim is to ensure that every patient I tend gets the best and appropriate care to the highest possible standard.

Not all orthopaedic problems need surgery. You will often be recommended non-surgical treatments such as medication, splints, walking aids, shoe inserts, physiotherapy or injections. Surgery has many benefits. However, it is an irreversible treatment that does not come with any guarantees and always comes with some risks, which have to be considered on an individual basis. l will always discuss with you all the alternatives, together with the benefits and risks of each, to help you make the best choice for you. The decision for surgery is made by you in partnership with the surgeon.
