Physiotherapy can help people regain movement, increase mobility and reduce pain using a variety of techniques. Conditions treated include back pain, sports injuries, joint, ligament, muscle and tendon problems, posture issues, whiplash, upper and lower limb conditions as well as post-surgery rehabilitation.
Our physiotherapy team work closely with our consultants to ensure patients are getting tailor-made care for their particular needs, either as an inpatient after surgery or as an outpatient as part of a recovery programme. We also offer a high level of expertise and equipment for the treatment of sports injuries, providing care for both aspiring and elite athletes.
At Spire Yale Hospital and Chesney Court, we offer post-operative physiotherapy following orthopaedic, spinal, hand and men’s pelvic health surgery. We accept Spire consultant referrals for musculoskeletal and men’s health conditions. We are unable to currently offer physiotherapy services for referrals outside of Spire.
Hand therapy
Our specialist hand service physiotherapists work closely to our hand consultants. We are able to offer you an individualised treatment programme for hand and wrist conditions in order to restore maximal functional recovery. The type of conditions we cover are sprains and strains, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, and post- surgical treatment (which may involve custom-made thermoplastic splints).
Physiotherapy acupuncture
Acupuncture is one of the many skills used within physiotherapy as an integrated approach to the management of pain and inflammation and as a means of stimulating the body’s own healing chemicals in order to aid recovery. Acupuncture doesn’t work for everyone, or for every condition. It has measurable effects on body systems, especially pain, but scientists can’t explain them all in detail. Acupuncture is known to increase the body’s natural painkillers (endorphins) in the spinal cord and the brain. This inhibits pain.
Physiotherapists practising acupuncture at Spire Yale and Chesney Court have undertaken appropriate post-graduate training to practice and update their skills every 2 years.
Men’s health physiotherapy
Our men’s pelvic health physiotherapy service offers high standards of individual care to meet your individual needs. This specialist service can help in the management of range of pelvic health conditions affecting men. These include incontinence, overactive bladder, bowel dysfunction, erectile dysfunction and pelvic pain. The use of ultrasound imaging can also be used to assist in assessment and treatment of pelvic conditions.
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive procedure for treatment of chronic conditions such as lateral epicondylitis, plantar fasciitis, greater trochanteric pain syndrome and achilles tendinopathy.
Shock waves are transmitted through your skin and into the damaged tissue underneath. This sets off an inflammatory reaction, increasing blood supply to the area to stimulate healing.
Clinical pilates
Our qualified physiotherapists deliver high quality clinical Pilates designed to provide life changing results for anyone suffering from pain and instability following an injury, surgery or to help relieve general aches and pains.
Our specialist physiotherapists will help you train your muscles to help your body move more safely and efficiently.
