My areas of expertise include; management of patients with sciatica pain, neuropathic pain (nerve pain), complex regional pain syndrome, headaches, chronic back and neck pain of musculoskeletal and spinal origin and joint pains. I follow a comprehensive approach for the management of pain.
I am proficient in performing a variety of procedures under x-ray and ultrasound guidance, ranging from nerve root, facet joint, sacroiliac joint, trigger point and epidural injections, as well as radiofrequency treatment for chronic neck, back, shoulder and knee pain, peripheral nerve blocks, capsaicin patch therapy for nerve pain and peripheral neuropathy, and Botox therapy for headaches, facial pain, back pain and neck pain. I am also competent to perform advance pain procedures including spinal cord stimulator implants and epidurolysis.
I obtained my medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, India, initially qualifying as a respiratory physician in 1997. I then developed an interest in anaesthetics and pain management, and after completing a postgraduate training program in the specialty, I then came over to the UK for further training. I obtained advanced training in pain management at various distinguished centres of excellence, including Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, King’s College Hospital, St George’s Hospital, and Brighton and Sussex university hospitals. This was followed by completing a research fellowship program in neuromodulation and pain management from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, one of the largest centres in Europe for spinal cord stimulation implants.
I then proceeded to take up the responsibilities of a consultant in pain management at Charing Cross Hospital, a renowned centre for neurosurgery with an excellent academic record, and part of the prestigious Imperial College Hospital NHS Trust and later joined East Surrey Hospital Redhill for a better work life balance.
I am committed to the study of pain - I am actively involved in audits and quality improvement projects in the hospital, and contribute to the education of anaesthetics and pain trainees as an educational supervisor. I have worked as a lead for an opioid clinic for chronic pain patients at risk for substance abuse while at Charing Cross Hospital and am currently the lead for cancer pain at East Surrey Hospital.
