I perform most general surgeries laparoscopically and am part of the emergency surgical on call rota as a substantive Consultant General Surgeon at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital NHS Trust.
I went to medical school at Liverpool University; I taught physiology and was awarded an intercalated BSc (Hons) Physiology in 1995 researching molecular pain producing substances. I qualified with an MBChB in 1998. Most of my surgical training took place in the Mersey deanery, where I completed my MRCS; I subsequently spent 12 months as a registrar in Brisbane Australia in 2003 where I learnt laparoscopic gastro-intestinal surgery.
After returning to Merseyside I successfully completed my FRCS in 2010; I then obtained my Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) – Specialist GMC Register 2010. I subsequently undertook a fellowship at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong 2010, where regular robotic and advanced natural orifice laparoscopic surgery is undertaken. I was then selected for one of only two nationally selected Ethicon Bariatric fellowships at North Tyneside Hospital 2011-2012.
I have a keen interest in surgical training and education and was elected President of the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) 2011-2012.
I have numerous publications and have presented my clinical research and on behalf of ASiT both nationally and internationally.
