Mr Krishna Singh

Consultant General Surgeon

MBBS, FRCS (Glas), FRCS (Gen), FRCS (Eng)

Specialises in

  • Acid reflux (heartburn)
  • Gallbladder surgery
  • Hernia surgery
  • Oesophageal diseases
  • Stomach cancer

I completed my basic surgical training on the Norwich rotation and went on to achieve accreditation in my specialist training in Scotland. Early in my career I undertook a Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco to further my experience in laparoscopic surgery. I then spent a sabbatical at the National Cancer Centre in Tokyo, Japan to gain expertise in upper GI cancer surgery. In 2005 I also spent several weeks at the Osaka University Hospital in Japan, observing and assisting with the surgical management of upper GI cancers.

I pioneered the first laparoscopic (keyhole) operations to remove cancers of the stomach in the UK. I have demonstrated my operative techniques widely throughout the UK and overseas and now the majority of these procedures are carried out using the minimally invasive approach. I have written papers on these techniques and presented them at national and international conferences.

I have a passionate interest in teaching and training activities - I've been a surgical tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons and Vice Chairman of Basic Surgical Training for Kent, Surrey and Sussex. I've also played a role in the national surgical societies and am currently on the council of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.

I have held the position of Clinical Director for Surgery for the past five years, more recently as Clinical Director for Abdominal Surgery and Medicine at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
