Specialises in

  • Partial and total knee replacement

  • Knee sports injury and preservation procedures
  • Arthritis management in young patients

My practice embraces all aspects of knee surgery arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction (including ACL). I have an interest in the treatment of young patients with osteoarthritis and perform procedures to allow them to continue in their sports and employment. This may involve corrective realignment procedures (high tibial and distal femoral osteotomies) rather than joint replacement. I have particular interest in problem or failing knee replacements. I perform hip replacement surgery

I was trained in orthopaedic surgery in Nottingham, Exeter, Bournemouth and Leicester and have worked in Leicester since 1995. I was awarded funding in 1994 to undertake research on knee replacement surgery and evaluate types of knee replacement. In 1997 I was awarded a fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) regarding hip and knee surgery. I was appointed as a consultant in Leicester in 2000.

I am President of The British Association for Surgery of the Knee (2016-18).

I represent knee surgeons and patients on the Medical Advisory Committee and Editorial Board of the National Joint Register. I work with the regulatory authorities to assess the safety of new and existing implants with Beyond Compliance and the Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel.

I enter data on my surgery to national audits, the National Joint Register (NJR), UK National Ligament Register (UKNLR) and the UK Knee Osteotomy Register)

I have presented my research on knee replacement in patients aged less than 55 years both nationally and internationally. The aims of my research are to improve the results of surgery and to provide patients with a better understanding of what to expect from surgery.

I act as reviewer for peer reviewed orthopaedic scientific journals and publish regularly myself.
